Skull and Bones........Vol. 4 (May 23, 2011)

Good Morning....My horse (Astrology) ran a good race Saturday but Shackleford ran better to capture the Preakness Stakes as Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom ran out of room....Astrology ran third, I had $20 across the board, good enough for a $20 profit....The Preakness is 1/16 shorter the the Derby and it made all the difference....Can't see any way that Animal Kingdom doesn't win the Belmont in three weeks.

Dirk Nowitzki has been a stud during the NBA playoffs and Derrick Rose is super but Oklahoma City and Miami is the matchup I want to see....Durant and Westbrook vs. James and Wade....Must see TV....Chris Bosh had a game last night but that won't happen with Kendrick "The Enforcer" Perkins in the middle....Vancouver has just about wiped up San Jose and Boston should have done the same with Tampa Bay but with deja vu written all over it the Bruins blow a 3-0 lead in game 4 and let the Lightning back in the series....If the Bruins pull this out it will have been despite Claude Julien (more ice and power play time for Seguin, maybe)....He's gotta go....Simon Gagne, Philly last year, Tampa this year, winning goal Saturday....hmmmmmmm.

Watched a great documentary this weekend on HBO about the 1968 Harvard-Yale football game....With the late, great Don Gillis on play by play it tells the story of one of the great comebacks, surrounded by the political and social issues of the day....The Vietnam war was a big backdrop and the lives of the Harvard and Yale students so different....Brian Dowling had not lost a game since 7th grade....Calvin Hill went on to be the #1 pick of the Dallas Cowboys....Yale was ranked #16 going into the game, both teams were undefeated, but Yale was the heavy favorite....The story is well told by the players involved....Fascinating to listen to the Yale linebacker who almost gleefully admits to a couple of chippy, uncalled for penalties in the 4th quarter that doomed Yale....Automobiles of the day, the crowd ringing the field and a coach smoking a cigarette on the sideline....Different times....Good story.

Some fantasy baseball owners are very happy today as Chase Utley makes his 2011 debut and Josh Hamilton returns from his shoulder injury....Ya know what sucks about being at the top of the standings, everyone steals the two-start pitchers, leaving thin pickings....This week I'm rolling the dice with the fat man, Bartolo Colon....He of the super-secret stem-cell blood transferring surgery, non-surgery, whatever thats got him throwing 97 mph in the 8th inning....After the disaster of a week that I had with Dice-K "the japanese enigma" it's all looking up....MLB network had the #1 greatest game last night ('75 World Series Game 6 Reds-Sox) and Joe Morgan came up to bat....It got me to thinking how much I miss him on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball....NOT!....Dan Shulman and Bobby Valentine are doing a fine job though the bar wasn't set that high by Mr. Obvious....I don't know who to send this to but....Thank You.

The golf gods made it all good as David Toms wins the Colonial....It wasn't easy and I thought he might fall apart there but he hung on and those two beauty 62's in the first two rounds didn't go to waste....Tough loss last week as he missed a short putt in the playoff with his family looking on but he went to Texas and I guess sometimes good guys do finish first.

Wonder what O.J. had for breakfast this morning....talk to ya.
